- Coordinates close with ARTCC to transition aircraft's between the terminal areas

- Provided for all IFR traffic except for vfr or VFR condition clearance
- 3 NM within 40 NM of the radar antenna
- 5 NM beyond 40 NM of the radar antenna

- To obtain IFR clearance at non-towered airports and out of reach of clearance delivery
- Processing the IFR flight plan
- “Center” computer scans your flight plan for preferred routes
- ATC then analyzes the route for possible restrictions (inop navaids)
- When route is finalized it is sent out to all centers you may fly through
- This is why you should file at least 30 minutes before departure
- Radar service for VFR aircraft's
- Service is not mandatory but is recommended
- Provides safety alerts, traffic advisory and limited vectoring
- Does not relieve you from obstacle clearance
